Irrigation Main Leaks

Irrigation Mainline Leak Detection

A mainline leak can drain a system overnight while the surface stays dry. Acoustic listening and zone-by-zone isolation narrow the loss to metres before any ground is opened.

Symptoms we're called for

  • The system loses pressure overnight or the pump cycles without a zone running
  • A summer water bill climbs with no change to the schedule
  • A soggy strip, sinkhole or unusually green line across the lawn
  • A hiss or running-water sound at a valve box or backflow assembly

Property types

  • Residential irrigation mains and service lines
  • Strata and commercial landscaped grounds
  • Sports fields, parks and school grounds (by arrangement)

Methods used

  • Acoustic listening on valves, backflow assemblies and exposed fittings
  • Correlation along the suspected run to convert sound into a position
  • Zone isolation and pressure-decay testing to confirm the loss
  • Tracer gas and line tracing where soil and depth limit acoustics

Limitations, stated plainly

  • We locate and document; repairs are performed by licensed irrigation contractors
  • Accuracy varies with soil type, depth, pipe material and background noise
  • Controller and valve faults can mimic mainline leaks and are diagnosed separately

What you receive

  • The located position marked on the surface and in the report
  • Pressure and isolation data supporting the finding
  • Photographs and a dig-ready summary for the repairing contractor

Next steps

  • Have the licensed irrigation contractor repair the located section
  • Confirm with a pressure test after repair
  • Book a seasonal check to catch new losses early
